Feature Request
I’d like an iOS Shortcut automation that reliably logs every Apple Pay transaction. For example, when I bought Beats headphones from the Apple Store using Apple Pay, the shortcut didn't trigger. I suspect it failed because the automation relies on tap-to-pay (NFC) rather than transactions initiated directly through the Wallet app or online checkouts.
Dynamic Colour Alerts for Category Rollovers & Unspent Savings Cues
1. Dynamic Color Cues on the "Remaining" Tab The Problem: Right now, remaining balances lack visual hierarchy, making it hard at a glance to tell which categories are safe and which are nearly exhausted. Suggested Solution: Introduce color-coded visual thresholds (progress bars or balance highlights) as spending progresses: 🟢 Green / Default: Normal spending within the allocated budget limit. 🟠 Orange / Yellow (Warning Threshold): Near exhaustion (e.g., when 80% or 90% of a category budget is reached). 🔴 Red (Overage Alert): Category budget exceeded / negative balance. 2. "Left to Spend" vs. "Potential Savings" Visual Cues The Problem: Displaying unspent funds purely as "Left to Spend" creates a psychological impulse to spend down the balance before the month ends simply because the money is marked as available. Suggested Solution: Reframe or split unspent balances near the end of a cycle as "Unspent / Available to Save." Introduce visual prompts celebrating unused funds (e.g., highlighting unspent amounts in a distinct savings visual) to encourage saving rather than clearing out the category balance. 3. Automated Unspent Sweeps into Savings Pockets The Problem: Unspent money often just sits in category budgets indefinitely or rolls over silently, missing an opportunity to build targeted savings habits. Suggested Solution: End-of-Month Sweep Prompt: At the close of a budget cycle, prompt users with a breakdown of unallocated/unspent money across categories and offer a 1-tap option to sweep those funds directly into specific Savings Pockets or goals (e.g., Emergency Fund, Vacation, Investments). Automated Rollover Rules: Allow users to set rules per category (e.g., "Sweep remaining dining balance to Savings" vs. "Rollover remaining variable bills to next month").
Feature Requests 💡
I’d love to see a few features added: Siri support — being able to add expenses, check balances, or perform basic actions using Siri would be very useful. Account balances on the front page — show the current balance of each account directly on the home screen. Total available balance — display the combined balance across all my accounts. Money lent / borrowed tracking — a dedicated section to keep track of money I’ve lent to friends or family, with reminders so I don’t forget to follow up. Money I owe — if I borrow money from someone, I’d like to record it and set a reminder to make sure I pay it back. Thanks a lot for the great work, and have a wonderful day! 🙏
Family Sharing
Hello, I use Brim regularly and would like to request a family or shared access feature that works across different Apple IDs. Right now, syncing only works through a single iCloud account, which isn’t convenient for shared family budgeting. It would be great to be able to share a budget with another user via invitation. Thank you for your app!
Credit Card Payment Tracking
Hi, I wanted to suggest an improvement to how credit card and debt payments are handled. Currently, if I record a credit card payment as a transfer from my bank account, Brim does not include it in my expenses. I understand that technically it is a transfer, but from the user’s perspective, that money is actually leaving their pocket to pay off a debt. This makes it difficult at the end of the month to know how much money was allocated to debt payments and where that money went. It would be very useful to have a “Debt Payments” section or category that allows these payments to be tracked without duplicating them, while still clearly showing them in the monthly summary. This would make it easier to distinguish between expenses, debt payments, and transfers to savings or investments, giving users a clearer picture of their money. Thank you for considering this suggestion.
More attractive interface and better category customization
It would be great to make Brim’s interface even more attractive and modern, with a clean and elegant Apple-like design. It would also be very useful to have Expenses and Income categories separated in the Manage Categories section, making it easier to organize everything and keep better track of our finances. Additionally, when users create a custom category, it would be great to have a library of beautiful and modern icons to choose from, so we can select the one that best represents each category. And something I think would be really nice: having an additional section with brand logos. For example, if I create a group called “Subscriptions” and then create a category called “iCloud”, I could select the iCloud logo as the category icon. The same could work for Spotify, Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, etc. I think this kind of customization would make Brim feel much more personal, modern, and attractive, and could be a great detail to catch the attention of new users when they discover and interact with the app. 🙌
Transfers to Savings Accounts Appear as Negative
It would be helpful to improve the way transfers to accounts configured as Savings are displayed. Currently, the transferred amount appears as a negative (-) value in the receiving account, even though it represents money being added to the savings account and should therefore be displayed as positive (+). This would make the transaction history clearer and help avoid confusion.
Credit Card Billing and Payment Management
Add functionality to the Credit Cards section that allows users to configure and track their credit card billing cycles and payment due dates. Requirements Allow users to define the statement closing date for each credit card. Allow users to define the payment due date for each credit card. Automatically calculate and display the next payment due date based on the configured billing cycle. Display the current billing period balance directly on the credit card. This balance must represent the total amount spent within the card’s current billing period, not the user’s expenses for the current calendar month. Display the total amount due for the current billing period, based on the transactions included in that credit card’s statement period. Clearly distinguish between: Monthly spending: expenses grouped by calendar month. Credit card billing period balance: expenses accumulated between the previous and current statement closing dates. Amount due: the total amount that needs to be paid for the corresponding billing period. Notify users when a credit card payment is approaching or due. Allow users to view a period-based report for each credit card. The report should include relevant information such as: Billing period. Statement closing date. Payment due date. Total spending during the billing period. Total amount due. Payments made toward the period. Remaining balance to pay. Transactions included in the billing period. Allow users to select a specific billing period or date range when viewing the report. Goal Provide users with an accurate view of their credit card billing cycle, including the amount accumulated during the current period and the total amount that must be paid, without confusing it with monthly expense tracking.
Track spending from savings / goal accounts
Right now, expenses made from savings accounts are not counted in the main budget, which is great. However, it would be useful to have a clear view of how much has been spent from each savings or goal account (gifts, travel, home furnishing, savings, etc.). The idea is to keep the main budget clean, while still being able to easily see how much was actually withdrawn from each savings envelope.
Icon catalog for categories (in addition to emojis)
Categories currently rely mainly on emojis. It would be great to also have a catalog of more refined and stylistically consistent icons, for users who prefer a cleaner and more premium look. The idea is not to remove emojis, but to offer a choice between emoji and icon, making the interface even more polished and customizable.
Separate short-term savings from long-term investments
Right now, everything falls under “savings”, which mixes two quite different things: • Short-term / goal-based savings (travel, gifts, projects…) • Long-term investments (stocks, ETFs, brokerage accounts, etc.) It would be great to clearly distinguish them, in order to better highlight and value long-term investments. This would give a clearer view of one’s net worth by separating project-based savings from actual long-term invested money.
Account widgets + total net worth on the Home Screen
Right now, accounts feel a bit buried in the settings. It would be great to be able to add Home Screen widgets for: • A specific account (quick balance overview) • The total of all savings accounts / overall net worth The goal is to easily track individual accounts and total wealth at a glance, without opening the settings.
Possibility to choose the decimal shown/ hidden
Having a toggle in the settings to set wether we want the app to show decimals or not
Colors
I love the deeper colors in the “left to spend” wheel. Can you make a theme or ability to change the widget colors from the pastel? I personally don’t care for pastel colors and would like them to match a bit more.
Sync with mac
Sometimes you really just need a bigger screen to go over your finances and see the bigger picture. I’d love for there to be a Mac app that syncs with iCloud to see what I see on the iPhone app.
Easier access to features
I often look at my budget and “left to spend” to make sure I’ve paid each bill through the month, so having this kind of tucked away behind the settings button is a lot of steps. I also like to look at my accounts often in budget apps to make sure I’ve logged all transactions. It would be super beneficial if it was easier to access those. I would suggest either a navigation bar on bottom with “add, budgets, accounts, settings” or keep the add button and settings buttons where they are, and then having a budget and accounts “page”, where you just slide left or right to get to those pages.
Showing the category on the top spending widget
If I choose to group by category, I should see the top category on the home view instead of the top group.
Filter for transaction
It will be better to have to see transaction only for specific dates.filter based on dates
